Description

This MSc top-up course is available to students who have completed the Postgraduate Diploma Leadership and Service Improvement (5308) and wish to progress to complete the full MSc. The MSc top-up will consist of the 60 credit Dissertation module which is a cross-school module for all Masters level courses.

The Dissertation module provides the student with the opportunity to undertake original enquiry in a chosen area of professional practice, either through a systematic review of the literature or a research/work-based project such as service evaluation or audit. Students will be able to consolidate and extend their knowledge and understanding of research and evaluation design and associated methods of enquiry during six taught sessions. They will subsequently be supported by a named supervisor to develop the practical skills necessary to plan and carry out their chosen project.

Alternatively, health care professionals may apply for the whole MSc Leadership and Service Improvement in Health Care (3904) course, taken over either three or four years. You can find this course and apply on the CPPD prospectus.

Entry requirements

  • Applicants for the MSc top-up, completing the dissertation module only, will need to have successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership in Health Care (5307) and Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership and Service Improvement in Health Care (5308) at London South Bank University. You can find these top-up courses and apply on the CPPD prospectus. Alternatively, health care professionals may apply for the whole MSc Leadership and Service Improvement in Health Care (3904) course, taken over either three or four years. You can find this course and apply on the CPPD prospectus.
  • Student support for studying at Masters level is to be discussed with the pathway advisor. Students who have not previously undertaken study at academic Level 7 (Masters level) are advised to consider the workshop: Preparation for Masters Level Study, which is available on the CPPD prospectus.

 

Career benefits

The dissertation is the culmination of the MSc Leadership and Service Improvement in Health Care award. Students will have been developing their leadership skills and service improvement knowledge during the Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma stages. This stage will enable students to plan and develop a research project/service evaluation/systematic review to answer a research question of important to them and their service. Students will be able to use their advanced project planning and implementation skills to lead projects and investigations in the workplace in future.
