This module is for registered healthcare practitioners working in a clinical practice setting that requires them to use Enhanced Clinical Assessment Skills in the delivery of patient care. Applicants are required to have support from their line manager as well as an appropriately qualified supervisor in their practice area.
This module will help practitioners develop enhanced physical assessment skills in the following areas: history taking, clinical decision making, cardiac, respiratory, abdominal, musculoskeletal, ENT, eyes, mental health, child, skin. There is approximately 75 hours teaching provided on the university campus at Avery Hill and in addition to this, each student will need to complete 225 hrs self-directed study time to successfully achieve the learning outcomes of the module.
The module is delivered with students also studying a similar programme at master’s level. The module runs 3 times a year. Some sessions may be delivered online. Upon successful completion of this module, 30 credits at level 6 are gained which can then be utilised as part of another programme of study. Details of these other programmes can be provided by the programme leader.
1. Applicants must be working in a clinical role where they are required to performed enhanced physical assessment on a regular basis
2. First degree normally 2.2 or above or equivalent or evidence of study at Level 5 within the last 5 years
3. Current registrations with NMC or HCPC or other relevant professional body
1. Timed observed structured clinical exam (OSCE) minimum 30 mins
2. Reflective portfolio (pass/fail)
You will acquire increased knowledge and skills to effectively perform enhanced/advanced clinical assessment.
You will also gain the confidence and competence to meet the objectives of your professional role and organisation.
