Description

This module is for those who are involved or interested in the development of their skills and knowledge relating to medicines and medicines management, and also in the physical health issues related to people with mental health problems.

This module is core for the mental health endorsement within the BSc Professional Practice.

The module is designed to develop your existing expertise as an autonomous critical mental health practitioner. You will gain an understanding of the principles of effective medication management and recognise the clinical skills and professional values involved in the physical health care of people with mental health problems and psychiatric disorders.

Prerequisites

Study at Level 5 or above within the last five years.

Assessment

The module is assessed via a practice assessment document and an OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination).

Learning Outcomes

You will be able to critically analyse, select and utilise research and theories to formulate contemporary approaches to effective and collaborative medication management and physical health care in a mental health context. You will also develop the skills to evaluate the application of health promotional activities and frameworks in the context of mental health service users.

Additionally, the module will enable you to expand your existing autonomy and leadership skills for effective interprofessional/inter-agency collaboration in the context of the medication management and physical health needs of mental health service users.

You will also be able to critically discuss health inequalities relating to individuals with mental health problems and psychiatric disorders.

Upon successful completion of this module as a standalone entity, credit gained could be utilised as part of the BSc (Hons) Professional Practice in Health and Social Care
